music: Vitamin String Quartet – Reckoner
mood: un-accomplished
Things I am doing this week!
- Sleeping in
- Going to bed at 0500
- Babysitting Eva and Scarlett for a few hours each day
- Made Play-Dough with Eva, next she wants to make slime
- Fixed the ‘rents computer, installed AdBlock and deleted about year’s worth of cruft
- Drawing drawing drawing – got some new inks
- Taking pictures
- Practicing violin – why is so hard to make myself practice when I know I’ll feel better afterward?
- Driving a falling-apart car
- Drinking coffee
That’s enough of that.
I had been using Windsor & Newton dye-based inks for doing all the color in my Moleskine in which I keep all my set design sketches and whatnot, and thought that the results had been fair. The colors aren’t terribly brilliant for the lighter colors (yellow, orange) and even the blues and greens left much to be desired. So this last Saturday I made a trip back down to Plaza art store and picked up four colors of Daler Rowney FW acrylic pigment-based inks. The difference was astounding. Bright colors, a bit less watery, and with a convenient eyedropper in the lid. Quite nice. The price tag is a bit steeper (about $6 per bottle…ouch) but a bottle will last for years, so I think it’s a good investment. I’ll probably slowly replace the dye-based inks that I have now with the FW ones as I go along.
I’m babysitting Eva and Scarlett for a few days every day this week except Friday, which is fun. Scarlett is at the age (about 21 months) where she thinks that pulling hair is about the most fun thing in the world (right behind hiding car keys) and as you might imagine someone with my head of hair is her nirvana. Needless to say, I come out of watching her looking a bit more frazzled than I did going in. Me and Eva made homemade Play-Dough this last time (flour, salt, oil, water) and she has expressed interest in making some slime later on. Gotta pick up some borax for that, but that’s cheap.
Also, my car is falling apart, and that makes me sad. I do not want to spend my tour money on a new car.
Exit, stage left.
