Going on Tour
World rejoice, I am going on tour.
It’s almost too good to be true: two days before I quit, I get a call from Chris, whose first words are “Would you like to go on tour?”. Quite naturally, my answer was “Do fish swim?”, and so he gave me the details. Apparently, the Christian group Superchic[k] is changing LD’s in the middle of the tour, and since Chris is providing all the equipment, they called him to ask if he knew any lighting guys.
As it so happens, he does.
So I leave this Wednesday to fly to Chicago, and my first show as the LD will be in Duluth, MN. I’ll of course post pictures and updates from the road. For those who care, here’s the equipment list:
– 4 Studio Commands
– 4 Studio Spots
– 6 Martin Atomic 3000 DMX strobes
– 2 eight-banks for blinders
– 32K of conventionals

Emily was back in the hospital for a short “tune-up” (As she refers to it.) She had contracted MRSA, and spent the better half of two weeks being treated with Vancomycin. I spent several nights up in her room playing Mousetrap, and, of course, lots of softball in the hallways. She’s just as quick-witted and cheeky as ever, and we had a lot of fun throwing playful insults back and forth.
What I like about Point of Grace
I do (Or, rather, did) a lot of complaining about Point of Grace, and I think I may have given you, loyal reader, the impression that the church is a giant blot of the face of Christianity – and this is not true. True, the leadership is horrible (In fact, non-existent) and the place is run extremely poorly, but it does have it’s redeeming qualities.
Working on the staff at a church is always a challenge for anybody – but it’s important to remember that there’s always two sides to every story. For every unhappy and disenchanted employee of the church, there’s someone sitting in the audience who actually got something out of the message. For every person who leaves saying “I’ve seen that before!” there’s someone else who hasn’t seen that before, and walked away from it changed. For all my complaining about Point of Grace, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t, on a semi-regular basis, hear people talk about how the things we do there touched their lives. There are elements of good and evil in every church.
