mood: woah
music: Gotye – I Feel Better
Here are the things that have happened this month.
I got a new job with [redacted, because I bash him in later entries] as his LD. For those that don’t know, he’s a country singer. It’s a bit of step up – he’s the opening act on a larger act. That means arenas. Lots of them. And I get to use large parts of the headliner’s rig, which is pretty awesome. And a pay upgrade. And the shows are mostly in the States, so no more hassle of constant border crossings. I had to call the Terri Clark guys and tell them I wasn’t coming back. That was the second-hardest phone call of my lighting career, the first being when I forgot my passport on the first gig.
I went to install some lights at a church in Florida for a friend of mine, and the wrong lift was got, and so it wouldn’t reach to the required place to hang the lights. Whoops. So we moved some conventionals around, and I programmed the new LED stuff into their console. An ETC Ion. Which I’m sure is a fine console for theaters and churches who have like 4 moving lights that they need to control, but I’m used to large-format moving light desks (Read: the GrandMA) that allow precise and extremely fast access to palettes and presets, and this desk isn’t made for that. So it was frustrating.
I met a girl. I don’t feel comfortable saying more than that right now. So we’ll call her Girlbert, and I will say that she is…awesome. That she actually likes me is both thrilling and terrifying. What if I do something to drive her off? I’m a neurotic mess when it comes to girls. But I’m not going to question it. Call it serendipity.
I became a docent at the Adventure Science Center, and I get to do cart demonstrations for kids and adults while wearing a very colorful tie-dye lab coat. Including one where I get to play with fire and flash paper. And also another where I get to demonstrate liquid nitrogen.
I start the new tour next week. Bring it.
Exit, stage left.
