They come in a variety of colors

mood: content

music: Weird Al - Headline News

I woke up fully rested for the first time in a long time today. Unfortunately, said awakening was at 02:00. Here's to my stupid, messed up internal clock.

I was at work the other night, sitting in the guard shack at the Country Club account, when I noticed what appeared to be giant moths flitting around the flower garden outside my shack. Upon closer inspection, I realized that the tiny creatures were not, in fact, giant mutated moths, but around three or four hummingbirds. They were very small, very nearly smaller than the thumb of an adult. They were a tan color, with dark brown / black stripes in a V-shape repeating down their backs. (I did a google search, but was unable to locate pictures of mine.) They didn't have any feathers that I could see, at least not in the low light at the time - presumably, they were too fine to see. Their beaks were quite long, at least as long as they were, and needle-slender. They seemed quite unconcerned with my presence, and let me get quite close, even flying around me to get to flowers. Made my long night there not so long.

Filip: They don't want to kill each other, just the terrorists. :P

Celebrate Recovery (For those playing the home game, my main hassle at church) is going well. Last week was a bit a running around, but the exploding battery made it all worth it. After a flurry of activity to move CR across the hall due to a concert, I was sitting in the room running sound. As I was doing this, I got bored and started fiddling with two 9-volt batteries that were sitting there, and for some reason, I left the two sets of leads touching. Then I had to turn my attention to the stage, and forgot about them. Approximately three minutes later, there was a loud pop!, not unlike a firecracker going off. The entire room turned and looked at me, and after quickly proclaiming my innocence (I didn't realize at the time what had happened), I looked down to see one of the two 9-volts had given up the ghost in a rather violent fashion. The explosion shot the battery across the table a few inches, and sprayed some kind of wet, blue-colored powder from the back. (The above linked image is exactly what mine looked like afterwards, by the way.) Earlier in the day I had discovered the joy of shorting out the leads of a 9-volts with a wire, which heats up the battery quite a bit (enough to hurt), and then handing it to people. I guess I got my comeuppance. :P

The rest of the night was spent on my hands and knees, making sure the poor camera guy for the concert (Nichole C. Mullen, for those interested) didn't trip over his own wire. It was quite a bit of fun, though it was very, very loud. Especially when you're only five-ish feet away from four, three-foot tall sub cabinets. (Or 1 meter, about.)

(01:24:38) Me: See, the drummer wears in-ears, so he can hear things like the lead singer and the piano. For the bass guitar, and the drummer's kick drum, we put a 18-inch subwoofer directly behind him. (01:25:24) Me: So not only can he hear the piano and vocals, he can literally feel them, too. (Note this was not my idea.) (01:28:50) Pixel: Oh, ugh.

Brian is currently in Iraq. He left sometime last week, unfortunately, National Security itself hinged on his friends and family not knowing when he was leaving. It's good to know that I've done my patriotic duty by remaining ignorant. Apparently, they'll have 10 phones...for nine hundred Marines. So I'll be writing a lot of letters. Kamper also asked me to set up a website for his unit, I should start writing that. Maybe download some open-source BBS code and do it that way. I'll make the Marines pay the hosting fees.
